Generally speaking, we don’t follow trends as they date so quickly. We opt for classic contemporary where old and new work harmoniously. But when it comes to colour, anything goes. Let’s take a look at our five favourite colour trends.
1. Gloss: Just when we thought gloss had died a death I’m here to tell you it’s coming back. Full gloss on fitted or free standing cabinetry adds interest and dimension to any space. Have you chosen to paint the walls and woodwork the same colour? Then add contrast by painting the woodwork in gloss as opposed to eggshell.
2. Ceilings: When we paint the ceiling white it creates a visible horizontal line where it meets the walls. This draws our eye to that point and we automatically know that’s how high the ceiling is. By painting the ceiling the same colour as the walls, that horizontal line disappears, tricking our brain into thinking the ceiling is much higher. Even if your walls are a dark colour this hack can work really well.
3. Wallpaper: Wallpaper is such a good way to introduce colour and pattern. My advice is to be brave and wallpaper all your walls; gone are the days of a feature wall! Select a colour within that wallpaper to paint your woodwork as an alternative to the commonly used white. It will feel intentional and considered.
4. Colour Drenching: You may have heard his term being used a lot recently. It describes painting a whole room in one colour; the ceiling, walls and the woodwork. It can feel quite dramatic, especially when using a darker or bold colour.
5. Warm Earthy Colours: We have been turning away from grey for a while now and warmer tones including browns are far more favourable. Earthy greens never fail and terracotta seems to be more and more popular.
