HOW TO DISCOVER YOUR INTERIOR STYLE
DECEMBER 2023
Do you feel that your home is a miss match of styles and lacks flow or continuity? Don’t stress, this is easily done, especially when you have hand-me-downs or blend two people’s homes into one.
My advice would be to sit down and create a mood board. Go through your saved images on Pinterest or Instagram and pull out your absolutely favourite designs. Look through your wardrobe and notice a theme of colours and styles. Take note of the items in your home you could never part with. Before you know it, you’ll discover the one style you’re drawn to the most.
You can now begin filtering out the items in your home that don’t fit with your chosen theme. It may be that some of your furniture items can be up-cycled/reimagined so don’t feel you have to get rid of everything. Furniture can be given a new lease of life by replacing the fabric, painting it, adding a marble top or changing the handles.
Before you buy anything new for your home, consult your mood board and ask yourself ‘will it complement the other items in your home’? If you’re not sure or do not absolutely love it, leave it. And if you’re really struggling, hire an interior designer who can help and guide you each step of the way.
